I recently bought a copy of Windows 8, Microsoft Office 2013 and Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac.

If Maverics was installed on your Mac Pro when you bought it then Pages and Numbers are free for you to download from the App Store. For editing photos one can use PhotoShop (expensive) or one can use Pixelmator ($30 in the App Store).

I wanted to install a Windows partition on my Mac so that I could run MS Office 2013 on a virtual machine.

I set up the VM, and everything was looking fine and worked smoothly.

Then, when I inserted the MS Office 2013 disk into the CD drive, nothing happened!

I tried to install MS Office 2013 but to no avail.

Does anyone know how to overcome this issue?

I was installing Office 2010 on a Surface Pro 3 recently and had trouble doing so. After some digging on some forums, I was able to find some tricks to get it to install correctly.

5 Steps total

Step 1: Uninstall Failed Microsoft Office

If you have tried installing office only for it to fail, uninstall it.

Step 2: Reboot tablet

If you uninstalled, it will have you reboot afterwards but, if this is a fresh install, you will want to reboot prior to attempting install.

Step 3: Stop the Print Spooler

This is what tends to hang the installation. You will have to run services.msc as an administrator to stop it though.

Step 4: Install Office 2010 as normal.

Step 5: Reboot Tablet.

This will keep the installation from hanging half, three-quarters, or nine-tenths of the way through.
